October 19-20, 2025 we hosted our last Ladies Mentored Hunt group for the 2025 season. This time we were in the western part of the province, with 'home base' being the house of TLF mentor, Mary, and her husband, Gary, in Rapid City. It was no surprise that our mentored hunters, Heather, Colleen, Jen, Nora, and Eckoe, as well as our youth hunter, Brody, carried the enthusiasm of our previous mentored hunts into this October weekend. We were fortunate to have behind-the-scene support from friend-of-the-team, Shannon, who had delicious hot meals ready for us so we could focus on learning. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!

 

Our mentored hunts are two parts: Training day and hunt day. We had beautiful weather for our training day, if a bit windy. The hunt day that built on those skills was also pretty nice. We split up into two groups in two fields, and collectively we took 9 Canada geese and a pair of mallard ducks. After the hunt we enjoyed an delicious brunch at the historic Queens Hotel in Rapid City, sponsored by the Rapid City & Area Wildlife Association. You want every hunt to end with birds to clean, and we had just that! After a quick demo, the mentees got right in there and dressed their birds. Everyone went home with meat!
